Mrs. Tawakkol Karman’s Address to Yemeni Nation on 8th Anniversary of Revolution of February 11
In the name of of Allah the Merciful,In the name of the great Yemeni people,In the name of the people's peaceful and free revolution, the glorious revolution of February 11th,
In the name of February Revolution and its objectives, squares and fields,Free Yemeni women and men at home and abroad, I welcome all of you!
I welcome my brothers and sisters, my fathers and daughters, my comrades in struggle and all those fighting against the counter-revolutionary war and the Houthi fascist coup, and against Saudi-Emirati occupation and guardianship.
To all free Yemenis all over our country’s mountains, plains, coasts and valleys..
Eight years ago, no one could possibly have imagined that dreams of dozens of courageous young men and women who gathered at Change Square in front of the University of Sana'a and in the Freedom Square in Taiz would possibly come true in the form of a peaceful popular revolution that would be supported by society’s different sectors and would lead to the tyrant along with his family-based regime to be overthrown.
But Yemenis’ passionate dreams driven by free will turned into a concrete realty that could be seen in the squares and fields, and that forced the tyrant to leave and bow to the people.
We proved to ourselves, to our people and to the whole world that the will of peoples is invincible, that tyrants no matter how hard and arrogant are they and despite their strong belief that they have won over their people, the day will surely come when they are inevitably overthrown and held accountable, and that peoples will remain and tyrants will come to their demise.
This historic lesson is absent today from the minds of authoritative neo-rulers who turned against the state with the support of the region’s counterrevolutionary forces. They imagine that they will re-establish the imamate to enslave the people and bring them back into the dark, but their belief is nothing but a product of delusional mind. Our people who has rebelled against the deposed president’s attempt to forward power to his son and other similar attempts would never accept to be re-ruled by medieval and superstition-based imamate.
Our people who revolted against the internal despot will accept neither guardianship and occupation of Saudi Arabia and the UAE nor their terrorist and separatist tools with explosive belts prevalent in cities, coasts, islands and territorial waters of our country.
* sons of our great Yemeni people,
We have faced a counter-revolution since the first day of the revolution; a counter-revolution in which the anti-change and -democracy and –freedom forces of tyranny have gathered against us at home and at the regional environment historically known for hostility to revolutions and to the right of peoples to self-determination. But be sure that our noble Yemeni people with its free will have the final say.
Four years have passed since the war waged by the Saudi-Emirati coalition in Yemen; the war that was covered by the legitimacy and the Houthi coup, and has brought our nation into the age of mini-states and multiple militias.
Prior to the fateful coup on September 21, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates supported the Houthi militias and undermined the state and handed over its capabilities and army to the militia in retaliation for the revolution of February 11.
They have never been pleased with our revolution’s acceptance of peaceful transfer of power and of the ruling party’s participation in the transitional period in which all political parties and components took part with regional and international sponsorship including the Gulf Cooperation Council, the United Nations and major powers.
Our people have found that the international and regional oversight that was said to sponsor the power transfer and transition turned out to be a big lie Yemenis have heard but have never seen on the ground.
No economic support was provided to the Transitional Authority. The ousted president subsequently returned to implement his revenge agenda against the popular revolution and against Yemen as a whole after Yemenis in squares and fields across the country clearly expressed their absolute rejection of his staying in power. There was also heavy pressure on the transitional authority to take no action against the then attempts by the Houthi militias to topple the state institutions.
Indeed, no one did anything to stop the militia’s march to bring down the capital Sana'a and the transitional authority. In addition silence and neutrality, they (Saudi Arabia and the UAE) provided the militia with all forms of support in order to take the subsequent coup as an excuse to impose their hegemony on our country. Our struggling and long-suffering people, however, would never be tricked into such deception.
Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with Riyadh, has acted as the center of the counterrevolutionary forces to confront popular uprisings. Four years ago, this Saudi-Emirati military coalition intervened in Yemen under the pretext that the legitimate president's entreaty. Nevertheless, this coalition has deviated from the specific task of supporting the legitimacy to restore the state from the coup led by the Houthi militia and the overthrown president.
Instead of restoring the legitimacy in its temporary capital Aden, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have supported separatist and terrorist militias and forces that are outside the control of the legitimacy, supplying them with weapons and money.
The coalition controls Yemen's islands, ports, coasts and oil installations, preventing the legitimate president from returning to the country and placing him under house arrest in Riyadh, not to mention preventing the government from exporting oil and extending its authority over all liberated areas.
The coalition’s war in Yemen is being waged with the aim of dividing it and plundering its wealth but not of supporting and restoring the legitimacy and the state.
Hundreds of thousands of Yemeni expatriates have been expelled by Riyadh that has also taken humiliating measures against these expatriates based on one principle: collecting more and more of their money and savings gained from their work.
The treacherous coalition has lost the fig leaf to cover itself. After four years of mere rhetoric and bloody war, the coalition’s objectives have become clear by obstructing any attempt to restore the Yemeni state whose authority has been replaced with militias that service as mercenaries of them as invaders and refuse to recognize the legitimacy detained in Riyadh.
Dear all Yemenis across our great Yemeni homeland,
Our great people has been subjected to the worst forms of violation in today's world, which has extended to affect their livelihood and basic foodstuff. Their nation and cities, on the other hand, have been ravaged by the war, bombing, death and destruction.
Your human suffering is intended to bring you to your knees and force our people to accept tyrants and occupiers. With the aim to pass their destructive plans in Yemen and dominate its people, warlords at home and regional and major countries jointly cause all this starvation and impoverishment of Yemenis.
The humanitarian crisis and this policy of starvation are an integral part of the war that targets Yemen, its state, unity, present and future, and facing this crisis requires the world to shoulder its responsibility for the Yemeni cause in all its aspects.
The humanitarian crisis is a consequence and part of the war. The coup against the state and the resulting Saudi-UAE war on Yemen has caused the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
Dealing with the humanitarian crisis without taking effective steps to end the war and restore the Yemeni state to shoulder its responsibilities towards its citizens makes it even worse.
It is true that humanitarian aid contributes to some extent to alleviating the suffering of Yemenis. However, credible reports confirm that much of this aid is being manipulated and used to finance the Houthi militia.
sons of our steadfast and struggling Yemeni people, The Houthi coup promises us slavery while the Saudi-Emirati occupation promises us a historic humiliation for which future generations would never forgive us if we remain silent about it, accept it and fail to resist or address it.
The awareness created by the February Revolution will serve as a guide for us to go away from evey way leading to the imamate’s darkness, which is an enemy of history and life. This awareness will protect us from falling into the trap of dependence on foreigners and bowing to their suspicious objectives that threaten Yemen, its unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Only the February Revolution, along with its values, the resulting awareness and the cause it has created, promises us freedom and independence, citizenship and sovereignty, state and unity, dignity and decent life within a unified, secure and stable homeland.
The peaceful revolution of February 11 was a good omen for our people’s liberation from internal tyranny and freedom from external tutelage.
This issue services as a torch-bearer that guides us and shows us the right way in the middle of a minefield of projects that target our people and our country from the inside and from the outside.
In the name of February’s generation, we say to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates:
You stupid fools, whose immaturity offends the whole Arab nation, wrongfully perceive to be able to occupy and divide Yemen by exhausting it via wars, chaos, and militias.
You little occupiers are under the delusion that you are capable of occupying and swallowing our country and humiliating our ancient and free Yemeni people.
To those spineless political parties and components, we say: The generation of the February revolution has passed you and shown you your inability. Be sure that this generation that is full of life and driven by the faith in freedom, citizenship and independence will now exceed your deficit and dependence in the hotels of Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.
In the name of this generation, the great generation of February, we say to you: Facing the coup d'état cannot be achieved by selling Yemen to little occupiers and leaving them and their affiliated militias to wreak havoc in its provinces, vital parts, coasts, islands, ports and airports and fuel resentment and hatred among the Yemeni people.
sons of our great Yemeni people in the north, south and east and west of our country, Our belief in the objectives of the February Revolution requires us to face both inside and outside occupiers.
In the name of this generation, the generation of February, we will face both the Houthi coup driven by medieval imamate and the Saudi-Emirati occupation at the same time and with the same moral and national commitment.
This is our cause today, and this is the only way for our people to save Yemen.
We would never accept to be slaves of the Houthi coup under the pretext of facing an external occupation.
We would also never accept to be tools in the hands of the Saudi-Emirati occupier under untenable and completely illogical pretexts that allow it to violate our sovereignty, control over our country’s islands, ports and airports and plunder our national wealth.
Inspired by the February revolution’s spirit, sacrifices and moral commitment, our people will keep its legendary struggle to achieve full independence. Only the people will have sovereignty over its entire national territory.
The history tells us that Yemen is the cemetery of invaders and that Yemenis are of great strength and of high combat capabilities.
Our promising revolution will keep going on until victory and until it achieves its biggest promise: the establishment of modern civil state.
Dear brothers and sisters,
We all belong to this great Yemeni nation and to one homeland where neither the British Empire nor the superstition-driven imamate were able to bring about any fragmentations. The united Yemeni destiny is firmly rooted in this people and our dignity is as lofty as our high mountains.
Our people’s enemies are hard working today to divide our great Yemen, encouraging the racist, sectarian, separatist and terrorist militias so that they could easily control over Yemen and our people and tamper with the wealth of Yemen and with its islands, coasts, capabilities and national gains.
The awareness created by the February Revolution is a victory for all of Yemen, and will be able tospare our people the scourge of sectarian, regional, racial and tribal rivalries.
We are one united people with free and strong will!
Above all, we are Yemenis regardless of any other affiliations related to sect, region, tribe or gender.
We Yemenis seek to have a democratic, law-abiding state where everyone is treated equally and where people have the right to choose who governs them in free and fair elections.
The national dialogue outcomes were unanimously supported by all political forces and civil and youth components. From here and on behalf of the glorious February Revolution, we reiterate our adherence to this rare national consensus for the establishment of a civil state with the approved and agreed-upon federal system of territories. We will strive for the restoration of the state and the completion of the political transition by holding the referendum on the draft new constitution and organizing relevant democratic elections to choose who will run all the institutions determined by the new draft constitution.
We emphasize here that this national track should not be a tactic to divide Yemen and end its state, but a national solution for building and consolidating the Yemeni state; the state of citizenship, rights and justice, and for preserving the unity, sovereignty and independence of the Yemeni nation.
Finally, I should like to tell you that our harsh experiences increase our belief in democracy and human rights and in their inevitability.
Our belief in our right to catch up with the developed world, and in democratic states that respect and safeguard fundamental human rights, would never disappear and its flame would not extinguish as long as we have a living spirit.
May Allah provide you all with determination and strong will to continue your struggle for freedom, dignity, justice and citizenship!
Glory to the human struggle throughout history for dignity, citizenship, justice, freedom and a decent life! The homeland represents these values, and the struggle for them is an integral part of our struggle for our dreams and aspirations for a secure and stable state.
Glory to the revolution’s martyrs, to its young free generation, to its lush branches and to its seeds, which will one day germinate and turn into freedom, citizenship and dignity and into a homeland whose sons will be proud of!
Best regards!
