Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist Tawakkol Karman congratulated the Syrian people on what she described as a great victory that has ended one of the most brutal oppressive regimes in history. 

She characterized the al-Assad regime as a bloody dictatorship that practiced state terrorism against its own citizens without justification.

In a post on her official Facebook page, Karman emphasized that the Syrian people deserve support and assistance during this challenging period. She called for backing of the necessary changes to help them move forward.

Additionally, Karman urged for an end to the suffering inflicted upon Syrians, who have endured various forms of torment at the hands of the al-Assad regime and its regional and international allies.

She praised the Syrian revolutionaries for demonstrating the legitimacy of their struggle to dismantle a criminal regime like that of Bashar al-Assad, noting that they have set a positive example in managing change, making their movement fundamentally ethical. 

Karman expressed her belief in the Syrians' right to freedom, rooted in the value of freedom itself and the right of the oppressed to lift their burdens.

Karman highlighted that the events in Syria represent a major turning point that could not have happened without the sacrifices of Syrians from various sects and regions. As a supporter of the Syrian people and their revolution, she expressed hope that this noble and forgiving spirit would endure.

Karman concluded by stating that it is time for Syria to enjoy security and for its people to experience freedom and dignity. She emphasized the significance of this moment for both the nation and its citizens, highlighting the hope it brings for a brighter future.

She hailed the day as a historic occasion worthy of celebration, asserting that the Syrians have triumphed over oppression and its numerous alliances. Karman stressed that Syria should never have been the possession of a power-hungry family or part of a malicious sectarian agenda.
