Nobel laureate to speak at UN Women Leaders Network Launch in New York
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman will participate in the official launch ceremony of the UN Women Leaders Network on September 26, 2024, during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Karman is set to emphasize the critical importance of empowering women across various sectors, advocating for their roles in leadership and decision-making, and promoting gender equality. Her involvement underscores the network's mission to unite women leaders and enhance their representation globally.
The Soft Launch of the UN Women Leaders Network will occur from 12:30 to 2:00 PM in New York. This event aims to introduce the network, which supports gender-equal participation in leadership roles.
Key speakers will include Michelle Milford Morse, Vice President of Girls and Women Strategy at the UN Foundation; Anna Jóhannsdóttir, Permanent Representative of Iceland to the UN; and Sima Sami Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women.
Following introductory remarks, attendees will engage in an informal networking lunch, marking a significant step towards elevating women's voices and fostering collaboration in the pursuit of gender equality.
