Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights advocate, Tawakkol Karman, has called on the Turkish presidency to put an end to the ongoing racist campaigns against Syrians in Turkey. 

In a post on her official Facebook page, Karman described the campaigns as "shameful, painful, and disgraceful."

Tawakkol Karman's statement is pertinent in light of the continuing reports of discrimination and assaults aimed at Syrians living in Turkey. 

Despite fleeing their country's ongoing conflict and seeking asylum in Turkey, many Syrians have encountered hostility and prejudice from specific sections of Turkish society.

However, with the support of prominent figures like Tawakkol Karman, there is hope that progress can be made towards a more inclusive and welcoming society for all those who seek refuge in Turkey.
