Amid denial by some, Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthis are holding back-channel talks, hoping to reach, if not already reached, a number of points, including a long-term truce,
a Saudi commitment to pay salaries to the Houthis and to state employees in Houthi-controlled areas and an end to the Saudi-Emirati blockade on ports and airports, stated the human rights activist and Nobel Peace laureate Tawakkol Karman.
During a Twitter space discussion entitled "Youth of Revolution and their Position on Saudi-Houthi Talks", Tawakkol Karman confirmed that the Houthis agreed with a cease-fire and and to secure the southern borders of Saudi Arabia, noting that the latter has thus handed over Yemen to the Houthis, especially since the Yemeni people is not represented in these talks from which even the Saudi-formed puppet leadership council has been excluded.
Karman has accused Saudi Arabia of seeking to maintain the status quo in Yemen, under the illusion that it can thereby divide the country into several parts, as evidenced by the recent Saudi-fueled declaration of Hadhrami state.
Despite the ongoing talks in favor of the Houthis, she explained, the latter are preparing for a long-term battle to extend their full control over the north and later to restore the southern regions.
In her intervention, Karman pointed out to the fact that the puppet presidential leadership council is the one who has legitimized this agreement.
In this context, Tawakkol Karman added that the Peaceful Revolution Youth Council was the first to call Sana'a an "occupied" capital upon the Houthi militia coup in September 2014, noting that the youth council annually commemorates the February revolution to shed light on events and developments in the Yemeni street.
