Counter-revolutions come to abolish wide margin of freedom brought by Arab Spring, Nobel laureate says
The counter-revolutions have come to abolish the wide large margin of freedom of expression achieved by the Arab Spring revolutions, said the Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist Tawakkol Karman.
In a post on her official Facebook page on the occasion of World Press Day, Tawakkol Karman pointed out that the margin of freedom of expression today is worse than ever due to counter-revolutions, stressing that, despite this, the struggle for freedom will continue until peoples reach freedom and a decent life.
It is not correct to claim bias towards freedom of expression while taking an equivocal position on coups and counter-revolutions, Karman added.
Karman stressed that all struggles for human rights in the region will always be in a vicious circle if they remain isolated from the strategy of overthrowing tyrannical regimes and replacing them with democratic ones that preserve rights and protect freedoms.
