Tawakkol Karman sends condolences on death of Egyptian historian Salem and calls for his honor
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, offered her sincere condolences on the death of the Yemeni-Egyptian historian, Dr. Syed Mustafa Salem, who passed away today, Sunday.
In a post on Facebook, Tawakkol Karman expressed her grief over the death of Syed and praised his virtue, saying that he was haunted by the love of Yemen and Yemenis, as is evident from his many books on Yemen’s contemporary history in all its various aspects.
She called for Sayed Mustafa Salem to be honored at all levels, memorialize him by naming a landmark within Sana'a University after him, draw attention to his books, and to inform future generations of his efforts in writing the modern history of Yemen, expressing her sincere condolences to his family, loved ones and students.
Sayed Mustafa is one of the most prominent historians who have significant contributions to modern and contemporary Yemeni history. He had been granted Yemeni nationality in recognition of his faithful role in serving Yemen he loved and adored.
Before moving recently to Egypt for treatment, Dr. Syed Mustafa Salem had worked as a professor of history at the Faculties of Arts and Education at Sana'a University in Yemen for more than 40 years.
