The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, stressed that the Facebook-related Oversight Board, to which she belongs, will act impartially without regard to Facebook's interests.
Tawakkol Karman, in a post on social media, said that the board members acknowledge there are many important issues related to online content users look for being considered by their oversight board on Facebook and Instagram.
“We are working hard to prepare the board to start work later this year so that it can start looking into cases referred by users and Facebook,” Karman added.
Karman added that they will make decisions without regard to Facebook's economic, political or reputation interests, in a fair, transparent and politically neutral manner.
The oversight board will have the right to make final and binding decisions about whether certain content should be allowed or removed from Facebook and Instagram, and make sure whether the content conforms to the standards and values of the Facebook and Instagram community, in addition to support for freedom of expression within the framework of international human rights standards.
