The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, said what happened to the late Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was likely deliberate, calling for the need for an international investigation into the truth so as not to allow the perpetrators go unpunished.
In a recorded speech shared by "Arabi 21" on the first anniversary of the martyrdom of President Mohamed Morsi, Tawakkol Karman said that Morsi will remain among the most prominent icons of the Arab Spring for his adherence to the spirit and essence of the glorious January revolution and for his legendary steadfastness inside inhuman prison.
Karman emphasized that the most suitable place for a president like Morsi is among the greats of history and world leaders who chose confrontation over compromising their values and principles, and opposing falsehood with all relentless rigidity.
Karman stressed that Morsi’s career is worthy of being contemplated and admired, as he fought against corruption and bullying, and was imprisoned many times.
“Today, as we commemorate the first anniversary of Morsi's death, we remember him as a wise, courageous man and a symbol of the Arab Spring who had never betrayed or turned out of the way of freedom and change,” she praised.
She called for confronting the propaganda by Egypt’s military coup regime and other coups and militias across the region by uncovering the truth, pointing out that peaceful transfer of power in all Arab Spring countries will put the entire region on the right track and fulfill the aspirations of its peoples for freedom, justice, development and democracy.
