UK sanctions on human rights abusers would be deceptive and false if turning blind eye to bin Salman
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, said that today’s UK sanctions on human rights violators will be deceptive and false if ignoring those responsible for crimes in Yemen or turning a blind eye to Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman,
the main mastermind of the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Today, Monday, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab announced the imposition of sanctions on 49 people and organizations responsible for what it described as the most horrific human rights violations in recent years, including Saudi officials involved in the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
“If UK sanctions on human rights violators everywhere ignore those committing crimes and massacres in Yemen, including the Saudi-led coalition and other militias, and target the tools involved in the killing Jamal Khashoggi while turning a blind eye to bin Salman as the head and the mastermind of the crime, such sanctions will be merely deceptive and false, and at best they are selective, wrote Tawakkol Karman on social media.
