Nobel laureate expresses absolute solidarity and sympathy with Lebanese people over Beirut Port explosion
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, expressed her full sympathy and solidarity with the Lebanese people facing a humanitarian catastrophe as a result of the devastating explosion that struck Beirut port and neighborhoods.
In a statement on her official Facebook page, Tawakkol Karman said: “The Lebanese people has proven once again that it is single-heatedly united, and that the problem lies in conflict of interests among some who have made Lebanon an arena for settling of regional and international scores.”
Ms. Karman emphasized that Yemen and Lebanon are similar in many ways, explaining that both countries need a fair system of government, and to end weapons outside the country, combat political corruption at all levels, and put an end to government neglect towards the interests of people and their lives.
Today, Wednesday, the Lebanese Minister of Health said that the death toll from Tuesday’s explosion in Beirut has risen to 135, and that the number of injured has reached about 5,000, while dozens are still missing.
