The human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize Tawakkol Karman has called upon the UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed to take actions in order to end the militia’s coup rather than to provide new peace proposals.
“Remind the UN envoy that we have an UN-brokered road map reinforced by seven UN resolutions, but the Houthi-Saleh alliance has not abided by and undermined it", Karman ironically demanded in a post on Facebook.
She also pointed out that what is required is to undo all actions taken after the coup and return to what Yemenis have already approved of, stressing that any new peace plan would only serve as a reward for the putschists who then will not hesitate to take over once again.
Yemen’s President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi has rejected a peace proposal presented to him by UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, according to a presidency source.
The rejected peace plan, which has not been made public, states that Hadi should transfer power to a vice president, who would appoint a new prime minister to form a government in which the north and south of Yemen would have equal representation.
According to a statement released on the government's website, Hadi was quoted as saying that the roadmap "only opens a door towards more suffering and war and is not a map for peace".
The statement confirmed Yemen’s President rejected to receive the new roadmap, citing him as saying that it serves only as a reward for the putschists while punishing the Yemeni people and legitimacy".
“The thoughts presented today under the name of a roadmap only carry the seeds of war", Hadi was quoted as saying.
