In a new wave of criticism, Yemeni human rights activist Tawakkol Karman, the co-recipient of the 2011 Nobel Prize for Peace, has launched a scathing attack on Egypt’s president, Abdel Fatah Sisi, describing his as “a criminal”.
“Sisi has undermined Egypt’s emerging democracy, wasted all development opportunities and brought the country to the brink of the abyss,” Karman said on a statement posted on Facebook.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah Sisi, who was elected in 2014 after the ouster of democratically elected president Mohammed Morsi in 2013, has recently been an object of ridicule and scathing criticism at different levels.
The head of Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC), Iyad Madani, had been apparently forced to resign after mocking Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Sisi during a meeting with Tunisia’s Beji Caid Essebsi about two weeks ago.
Moreover, Sisi has been listed among the “predators of press freedom” issued by Reporters without Borders (RSF) last week.
