Tawakkol Karman: Yemenis reject any road map leading not to state sovereignty and end to militias
Yemenis would reject any road map that doesn’t end up disbanding and disarming the fascist militia as well as exerting the influence of the state over every inch, human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkol Karman has said.
Karman, in a statement posted on social media, has stated that justice is never compromised, as there is no peace without justice, adding that any roadmap, which is not conducive to achieving justice, is definitely refused.
It is noteworthy that Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, Yemen’s internationally recognized President, has recently rejected the UN roadmap provided in its current version because it marginalizes his future role.
The UN plan provides, among others, that Hadi transfers his powers to a vice president chosen by consensus, who should be authorized to task someone with forming a new government, while Hadi remains an honorary president until a new one is elected in one year.
The U.N. Special Envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, has recently received a letter from the Yemeni President in Aden, which includes a response to the roadmap Ould Cheikh had previously proposed.
According to Yemen’s state-run Saba news agency (SABA), the government’s response to the roadmap of Ould Cheikh was aimed to correct the path and enable success of peace efforts in Yemen in accordance with the specific terms of references, i.e. outcomes of national dialogue conference and UN 2216 resolution.
In a statement after a meeting with President Hadi in Aden, Ismail Ould Cheikh said that the international community, the Security Council and the United Nations as well as the 18 states reiterate their support for the legitimacy of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and his government headed by Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr.
In another context, Mrs. Karman has wondered at talking about the end of the Iranian role in the Red Sea and the Strait of Bab al Mandeb, saying, "Without any exaggeration or delusion, Iran has already had control over the Red Sea strait of Bab al Mandeb and the Red Sea, and therefore it could control maritime traffic there.
She concluded by saying, "our people's struggle will continue until the state is retaken and this hegemony is ended."
