Karman Denounces Iranian Repression and Warns Against Regional War
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and prominent human rights advocate, Tawakkol Karman, has sharply criticized the Iranian regime’s record of repression and regional interference, while firmly rejecting military escalation and destructive warfare in all forms.
In a statement published on her official Facebook page, Karman accused the Iranian authorities of pursuing policies marked by systematic domestic repression and the export of instability across the region. She held the regime accountable for grave human rights violations within Iran, as well as for supporting armed militias and fueling conflicts that undermine regional security.
At the same time, Karman condemned the recent U.S.–Israeli military actions targeting Iran, rejecting what she described as the logic of open war and collective punishment. She warned that large-scale escalation would neither dismantle authoritarian rule nor deliver justice, but would instead deepen civilian suffering and risk igniting a broader regional conflagration.
Karman reiterated her opposition to what she termed the “tyranny of the mullahs’ regime,” expressing support for the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and democratic change. However, she stressed that dismantling authoritarianism cannot be achieved through destructive wars.
Concluding her remarks, Karman underscored that lasting security will not be secured through missiles or military campaigns, but through adherence to international law, respect for human rights, an end to external interventions, and genuine support for the aspirations of peoples seeking liberty and self-determination.
