Tawakkol Karman at “International Remarkable Women’s Summit” in Istanbul: There is no dignity and freedom for any nation oppressing women and their inherent rights
The human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman said there is no dignity and freedom for any nation that oppresses women and deprives them of their inherent rights.
In a speech delivered today during the opening session of International Remarkable Women's Summit in the Turkish city of Istanbul, Karman stated that a free woman is who frees nations and creates great revolutions, adding that the future will be in favour of women, and there is no future without women.
She called upon women all over the world to be more interested in politics and voluntary work.
“Women has to aspire to be leaders in politics and public work, and have confidence that they will be the best and the most capable. This is the truth that proves itself day after day as we see women venturing into the public life and the field of competition and partnership,” she explained.
"I call on women all over the world and in the Arab region, particularly those who have revolted against tyranny and corruption, to take the lead of public affairs just like they led the revolutions. They seek to lead countries.”
Mrs. Karman also called on women leaders in what she described as “the civilized world” to build bridges of communication and to participate and cooperate with their colleagues in the East and the South in order to fight together the holy battle for communities free from injustice, corruption and tyranny and for societies where there are equal opportunities.
The mother of revolution stressed the need that women have a real participation in economic development as well as in market of business and finance.
Finally, she noted that every woman today is required to play role, and just as they have to be actively engaged in politics, they also have to go through economy and stand out as successful businesswomen.
