Tawakkol Karman in an interview with Colombia’s El Mundo: Nobody could stop the Arab Spring after it started
The human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman has said that no one will be able to stop the Arab Spring after it began, stressing that it has never failed as some alleged.
In an interview with the Colombian newspaper El Mundo, Karman stated, “Our fight for dignity will continue, even though we know how high the price of freedom is."
Karman renewed her criticism of US President Donald Trump’s discourse as she thinks his speech promotes hatred and provides a fertile ground for terrorism of ISIL and al-Qaeda.
"If we want to fight terrorism, we must care about the oppressed minorities, rather than building walls against them," said Karman.
On the other hand, Karman has indicated that women round the world, not only in the Arab countries, face unequal treatment, stressing the need of political, economic and social gender equality to be prompted.
Women have played a key role in the Arab uprising and proved to be more capable than men when it comes to the resolution of disputes by peaceful means, she concluded.
