Battling Injustice sheds light on lives of sixteen Women Nobel Peace Laureates, including Tawakkol Karman
A book shedding light on lives of sixteen Women Nobel Peace Prize laureates, including Nobel Peace laureate Tawakkol Karman, has been recently published by Harper Collins Publishers, India.
Tawakkol Karman, Aung San Suu Kyi, Malala Yousafzai, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee, Shirin Ebadi, along with others like them, shaped the history of their peoples through their fight against political persecution, social deprivation and gender discrimination, according to the book.
The Nobel Peace Prize memorializes achievements and courage and ability of these women to inspire hope in others”, noted the author.
The book, which has become available after six years of painstaking research and many interviews, shows how many inspiring stories the characters of the book have and the events that shaped their work during their journey.
Based on the editor, Supriya Vani, these women are all activists who dared to fight the unjust systems and never dithered even when death stared at them menacingly.
Supriya Vani points out that the fate of the world is closely linked to the emancipation of women, stressing that the cause of world peace urgently requires women's leadership.
Former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says in the introduction to the book: "Empowered women are the best drivers of growth and the best hope for reconciliation.”
“Today, there are more women who have attained access to education than ever, more women are leading businesses, governments and global organizations. If women are held back, the whole world feels the pain”, added Ki-moon.
