Nobel Peace laureate impressed with great struggle of Honduran women
Tegucigalpa, Honduras - Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman paid tribute the struggle of Honduran women for rights and freedoms in their country.
In Honduras, there are very courageous women who are fighting for their rights, and against the challenges facing this country," Tawakkol Karman said in an interview with the Colombian daily El Heraldo on Monday.
Along with the 2003 Nobel laureate, Shirin Ebadi, she paid a visit to Honduras to investigate facts about violence against women human rights defenders.
"After meeting with several people, I see there is a strong movement concerning the defense of human rights," stressed the Nobel laureate.
"I am convinced that Honduras is able to put an end to problems and become a country of law, peace, democracy and social justice," she continued.
The Nobel laureate called on Honduran authorities to promote women's rights by enabling them to participate in decision-making.
She emphasized that the repression is one of the greatest threats to peace, pointing out that "there could be no peace without justice.
