Tawakkol Karman: Arab coalition wants Yemen to remain failed state
The Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates wants Yemen to remain a failed state so that it is easy to swallow it up and control its islands, coasts and ports,
and bring the whole country under permanent hegemony, said Nobel Peace laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman.
Karman, in a statement on social media, pointed out that the Saudi-led coalition claims it has militarily intervened in Yemen to restore legitimacy while representatives of the legitimate authority are not allowed to leave their exile in Riyadh.
“The areas liberated from the Houthi militia and forces loyal to ousted president Saleh are controlled by this treacherous coalition that until now has refused to hand them over to the legitimate authority”, she explained.
But she reiterated that the Yemeni people would never accept any violation of its sovereignty.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading a vicious war with the alleged aim of restoring the legitimate authority overthrown in a coup carried out by the Houthi militia and ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The war has received widespread criticism and had a dramatic worsening effect on the humanitarian situation, that reached the level of a "humanitarian disaster".
