A number of government organizations in the Republic of Peru today honored Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman in recognition of her peaceful struggle for rights and freedoms and the promotion of women's presence in societies.
Mayors of three Peruvian cities today awarded the Nobel laureate Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman certificates and medals of honor in recognition of her role in defending women's rights and freedom of expression.
The Nobel laureate is visiting Peru at the invitation from Peruvian University of César Vallejo on the occasion of its 26th anniversary.
Tawakkol Karman is the fifth Nobel Prize to arrive in Peru for the twenty-sixth anniversary of the César Vallejo University, after Shirin Ebadi (2003 Nobel Peace Prize), Leymah Gbowee ( 2001 Nobel Peace Prize), Jody Williams (1997 Nobel Peace Prize) and Rigoberta Menchú ( 1992 Nobel Peace Prize).
