Tawakkol Karman launches scathing attack on UAE rulers because of Socotra
The Nobel Peace laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman attacked the UAE's "malicious attempts" to take over and annex the Socotra archipelago exploiting the ongoing conflict in the country.
In a statement on Facebook, Karman quoted Sky News Arabia as saying that the United Arab Emirates may be calling for a referendum of Socotra Island’s inhabitants to choose between three countries.
She considered such a call a violation of the sovereignty of Yemen, calling on UAE rulers to respect Yemen's sovereignty and stop this policy that endangers international peace and security.
Directed by the UAE rulers, Sky News Arabia has recently put forward the idea of this referendum, which clearly indicates that the Gulf state is driven by a greedy desire to control Yemen’s legendary island.
