Tawakkol Karman sends condolences on death of Sudanese poet Saif al-Din al-Desouki
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman today sent a condolence letter to the Sudanese people on the death of the poet Saif al-Din al-Desouki, who died yesterday, at the age of 82.
Al-Desouki is seen among the pioneers of romantic poetry in Sudan, and achieved many poetic works.
"I offer my great condolences to the Sudanese people on the death of the giant of the Arab poetry, Saif al-Din al-Dessouki," wrote Karman on Twitter.
In addition to his literary activity in radio and television in Sudan, he worked as a presenter of cultural programs and as a head of the directing section of the Saudi Radio in Riyadh and then director of the Sudanese Nile Valley radio station in Sudan.
According to Al Babtain Dictionary of Contemporary Arab Poets, Al-Dessouki completed his primary, middle and secondary studies in Sudan, and obtained a BA in Arabic from Cairo University, Khartoum Branch, a Diploma in Journalism from the Egyptian Press College in Cairo and a language diploma from Regent’s University London.
He won the Poetry Award in Khartoum, the Arabic Poetry Scarf from the Sudanese Community in Cairo, and a number of other awards.
His poems include "Letters from My Blood", "Green Letter" and "Rosary Wedding Time".
