In interview with Turkish Daily Sabah, Tawakkol Karman accuses UAE of plunging Yemen into chaos
The human rights activist and Nobel Peace laureate Tawakkol Karman has stated that the UAE prevents Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi from returning to Yemen and was keeps the country in a whirlpool of chaos to continue to control Yemeni ports and islands.
“The UAE has exploited the country's vulnerability caused by the Houthi coup and the ongoing war to achieve its own goals," Karman said in interview with the Turkish Daily Sabah.
She explained that Abu Dhabi has established armed groups and forces “that neither affiliate to the Yemeni national army nor follow the orders of the legitimate government.”
She also added that Abu Dhabi has set up secret prisons in which all forms of torture are practiced against Yemeni citizens who oppose its ambitions in Yemen.
“But despite all this, Yemen will triumph,” she continued, pointing out that the UAE, which, though it pursues aggressive policies, would not be able to face potential challenges in the future.
In response to a question about the decision to freeze its membership in the Yemeni Islah Party, Karman said the decision is illegal for many reasons, indicating that politicians, including the Islah Party, are under intense pressure from Saudi Arabia.
