Tawakkol Karman condemns setting fire to Al Shumoua Press Foundation and blowing up of Radio tower in Aden
The human rights activist and Nobel Peace laureate Tawakkol Kamran condemned in the strongest possible terms setting fire to Al Shumoua Press Foundation and to its printing machines after looting of headquarters in Yemen’s interim capital of Aden.
In a statement posted on her Facebook account, Karman considered the incident as nothing but an extension of the war against freedom of expression and journalists in Aden and the rest of the southern provinces occupied by the UAE and Saudi Arabia, holding them accountable for all violations there.
Driving military vehicles in the temporary capital of Aden, an armed group today set fire to the headquarters of the Al Shamoua Foundation for Printing and Publishing and of the daily newspaper of Akhbar al-Youm.
The newspaper's chief editor Saif al-Hadhry, in a brief statement, confirmed that armed men on military vehicles burned the entire building of the newspaper.
It is worth mentioning that the incident took place only a day after the Bandar Aden radio tower was attacked by unknown assailants, coinciding with large-scale campaigns against journalists and the media in Aden.
