Nobel laureate and Mexican Secretary of Public Education discuss importance of modern education systems
MEXICO CITY – the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman and Mexico's Secretary of Public Education, Otto Granados Roldán, today discussed the importance of modern education systems to promote development and achieve the goals and requirements for people to engage in the labor market.
In a press release posted on its website, the Mexican Ministry of Public Education said that Granados Roldan and Mrs. Karman agreed to strengthen joint cooperation and establish model educational institutions, support the disadvantaged and low-income population, and sensitize the community about the importance of education and its relation to development.
They also spoke about the promotion of financial and in-kind assistance in marginalized areas so that the children of these communities are enrolled in public education, as well as about the need to promote campaigns for the promotion and defense of the education.
As stated in the press release, the Secretary of Public Education and the Nobel Peace laureate also discussed the scope of the distribution of scholarships, from basic to postgraduate education, as well as for languages and training so as to help students who face financial limitations continue with their education.
The Nobel Peace laureate was invited by Mexico's president to participate in an international festival of culture and leadership on March 15-18.
