Tawakkol Karman congratulates Turks on successful presidential and parliamentary elections
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and activist Tawakkol Karman congratulated the Turkish people on the successful presidential and parliamentary elections, stressing that democracy will remain a source of inspiration for the region’s peoples.
"I congratulate the Turkish people on this democratic wedding. The Turkish people has won, and their democracy and sustainable development will continue to inspire the peoples of the region, who suffer from both dictatorship and underdevelopment," said Mrs. Karman in a statement on her official Facebook page.
Karman addressed a letter to the Arab dictators, including Gulf’s rulers and Egypt’s Sisi, who as she stated are questioning Turkey's democracy and are striking to discredit it.
She challenged them to allow even a tenth of democracy such as that of Turkey.
The Nobel laureate also sent a message to the Arab Islamists who are proud of the experience of the AKP and are pleased with its success, saying: "be inspired by Turkish experience if you want a similar success, which could be only achieved by having a bias in favour of the state to be secular."
