The Salafist Adel Abdu Faree, known as Abu Abbas, and his gunmen still receive various kinds of support from the UAE to practice the worst crimes against Taiz and its people, said the Noble Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman. 

Mrs. Karman, in a statement on Twitter, pointed out that Abu al-Abbas and his gunmen are financed and supported by the UAE, although the US Treasury Department designated them as al-Qaeda-supporting elements. 

The US Treasury Department had stated that al-Abbas has acted on behalf of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the group's Yemen branch, and has assisted Islamic State in Yemen.
