Nobel laureate: UAE leads armed rebellion in Socotra
The Nobel Peace Prize winner and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman blamed the United Arab Emirates for conducting an armed rebellion against the Yemeni legitimacy in Socotra by supporting armed rebel groups.
In a statement posted today on Facebook, Tawakkol Karman launched a scathing attack on Abu Dhabi, accusing it of seeking to reoccupy Socotra, a Yemeni island in the Indian Ocean about 210 miles (340 km) southeast of Yemen.
Mrs. Karman warned the UAE against any attempt to violate Yemeni sovereignty, indicating that Yemenis would not be silent on such actions.
