Karman in an interview with DW in Arabic: Jamal Khashoggi turned into global icon, we ask Saudi Arabia to disclose his fate
The Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkol Karman has asked the Saudi authorities to reveal the fate of Saudi writer and media personality Jamal Khashoggi.
Karman said in an interview with DW in Arabic: “Jamal Khashoggi has become a global icon of freedom of opinion and expression.”
Answering to a question about the possibility of an agreement between Saudi and Turkish officials about Khashoggi, Karman said: "I do not think that Turkey can be involved in any deal," she said. "The issue of Jamal Khashoggi has become the issue of every defender of human rights and every defender of freedom of opinion and expression," Karman said.
Karman explained that the Turkish Foreign Minister assured her that his government will not abandon the issue of Khashoggi, calling on Turkey not to be subjected to any blackmail and any deal and not to prefer any economic interests at the expense of human values that Turkey must hold on and protect them.
Karman said she met Khashoggi about two months ago and they continued contacting through letters. "He was very upset by the arrests that are taking place in Saudi Arabia,” she said.
