Global governance is imperative to face challenges to our coexistence, Nobel laureate says at London Diplomatic Summit
It is not a luxury or redundant to talk about global governance and its necessity. Rather, it is an imperative need to cope with challenges and threats to our coexistence and destiny on this small planet whose climate and biodiversity are in jeopardy, said the activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman.
This came at her keynote speech at the London Diplomatic Summit.
The urgent need for something like a global government -through either the modernization and development of the mechanisms of the United Nations, or the development of a new organization that is in keeping with this century and dealing effectively with the challenges to the future - is not a luxury or redundant, she added.
Karman stressed the need to address all calls for hatred among nations and all calls for conflict between peoples, religions and races, noting that these calls are a serious threat to fuel and feed global terrorism.
She considered that targeting women makes the future darker, and weakening them is a weakening of society.
The London Diplomatic Summit is an unprecedented diplomatic event that will brought a fresh perspective to regional challenges and to international affairs.
The summit is guided by the principles of smart diplomacy, bringing together a diverse community of stakeholders, who apply innovative approaches to finding practical solutions with a measurable impact.
