Argentine mayor of Rosario meets Karman
Mayor of the Argentina city of Rosario, Monica Haydee Fein, met with the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Tawakkol Karman, the first Arab woman and the second-youngest Muslim woman to win the Nobel Prize,
who went to Rosario to attend the conference "Struggle, Legacy and the Future of our Rights," in the framework of the annual forum being organized in Santa of Argentine to discuss many social and legal ideas.
During the meeting at the Burj Ross Hotel, Mayor Monica Fein welcomed Karman and expressed her appreciation for her struggle, saying: "We consider it a role model, and it is essential for the world to recognize the status of women as leaders, especially in their struggle for peace,” she said. “If there is something that gives women that, it is that their hands are clean and not stained with wars and crimes against humanity."
Mayor Monica gave Karman a book in which she collected a series of paintings by the famous Argentina artist Antonio Berni.
"I am very happy to be in Argentina, especially in Rosario, the city where Che Guevara was born, a hero for us," said Karman.
Today Argentina celebrates 35 years of freedom after the last dictatorship, and I hope that Argentina will continue on the path of struggle and become a democracy free from corruption and all kinds of violence against citizens, especially against women, said Karman.
"Women in the Arab Spring countries make great sacrifices and are fighting to overthrow authoritarian regimes, fight corruption and against military coups, and they pay a high price for that," said Karman.
"I strongly support the role played by women in Argentina, the activists who fight against the deterioration of society, and against all kinds of violence, especially against crimes by women, whether they are male or female activists. They do what they should do," said Karman. “There should not be a dead woman anymore."
