Karman calls for the establishment of clear mechanisms to implement the Stockholm understandings
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Tawakkol Karman, called on the UN Envoy to Yemen to set up clear and adequate mechanisms to implement the Stockholm understandings that effectively guarantee the formation of local forces that will take over security in Hodeidah
and its ports after the withdrawal of the Houthis and the coalition forces and the redeployment of forces from Hodeidah, who did not participate in the fighting.
Karman said that unless the administration of various state institutions in Hodeidah and its ports is assigned to officials who used to run the city and its ports before the coup, and filling any vacant post in accordance with a competitive mechanism that would provide equal opportunities for Hodeidah's citizens, and implementing punitive measures by the Security Councilagainst those who violate the Stockholm agreement, so the Stockholm understandings will fail.
"The failure of the Stockholm agreement means your personal failure and the UN Secretary General has to look for an alternative to you," Karman said. "It could be a fatal blow to the credibility of the United Nations in Yemen.”
"Unless you are working to do all this without hesitation, and you and the Security Council are preparing to take real and deterrent sanctions against those who fail to implement it and disavow commitment, your agreement and decisions will be winded and their value will not equal the price of the ink," she said.
