In her speech at the Munich Security Conference, Karman said Western countries allied themselves with tyrants when the Arab Spring began
The Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkol Karman said many Western countries had allied themselves with tyrants in the Arab world following the Arab Spring revolutions.
This came in her speech during the closing session of the Munich Security Conference in its 55th session in the Republic of Germany.
"We have not betrayed our principles. It is the international community that betrayed against us and against the principles. Many countries in the West say they protect human principles and human rights and wish that we have democracy in our countries," she said. "But when the revolutions erupted, the West allied with tyrants and it did not take responsibility for human security.”
"We have made a great revolution and have made great sacrifices. We are now facing the counter-revolution, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as well as Iran, with the complicity of the international community,” said Karman.
Karman stressed that the aspirations of the Arab spring revolutionaries did not die and the struggle will continue to ensure human security in our countries and the region.
Karman called for stopping the war in Yemen and stopping weapons supplying to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Karman pointed out that the Saudi-UAE “treacherous” coalition exploited the Houthi-fascist coup to wage a systematic occupation and destruction of Yemen and that it went too far in undermining the Yemeni state and waging a war of genocide against the Yemeni people, pointing out that the world stands shamefully embarrassed by this crime.
Karman said that Bashar al-Assad killed a half million of his people only because they came out of the same Arab spring shouting for freedom, while al-Sisi killed thousands and hid tens of thousands only because they won transparent elections brought by the revolution of January 25 one day, and Omar al-Bashir killed hundreds of thousands and still govern Sudan with oppression and tyranny.
Karman stressed that all this happens amid the world disappointing, shameful and painful silence.
