The Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkol Karman condemned the brutal terrorist attacks on a number of churches and hotels in Sri Lanka today, leaving hundreds of dead and wounded people.

"These brutal attacks are directed not only against the multiple and co-operative Sri Lankan society, but against humanity and all of us," said Karman on her official Facebook page.

"These brutal terrorist bombings in churches in Sri Lanka, a few weeks after the horrific terrorist crime in New Zealand, confirm that terrorism has no religion and that it undermines human coexistence and our shared values," said Karman.

Karman stressed that fighting terrorism globally is a humanitarian necessity and a duty for all to combat and dry up the wellsprings of fanaticism, extremism and hatred in this world and promote peace and global coexistence.

Karman prayed for the mercy for the dead and the recovery for the wounded and offered condolences to their families, the Sri Lankan people and humanity as a whole.
