Karman participates in the 2019 Women's Conference
The 2019 Nobel Women's Conference began today at the Monrovia Hall in Liberia and lasts for three days, with the Nobel Peace Prize winners Tawakkul Karman, Shirin Ebadi, Judy Williams, Rigoberta Manchu and Lema Gbagbo.
Lima Gbagbo, host of the conference, told reporters on Wednesday that the Nobel Women's Initiative held a biennial meeting worldwide to celebrate the youth.
According to Ms. Gbagbo, the group's goal is to seek to end global violence and create a space for global security in building human rights, justice and equality.
The 2019 Women's Initiative was sponsored by Liberian President George Weah and other eminent personalities.
In a speech at the conference, Tawakkul Karman called on Liberia's women to continue their struggle and assume greater responsibilities.
"I urge all of us to do more," said Karman. "Liberia needs you and deserves to be in the lead. You have to give it the place it deserves. "Just as you have fought well to stop the war and restore peace, you are also able to do more for this great country,” she said.
