The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist Tawakkol Karman said that the parliamentary elections in Tunisia have brought down the phobia about Islamists being in power.

The Tunisian Ennahda movement won 40 seats in this year's elections, compared with 68 seats in 2014 and 89 seats in 2011, Tawakkol Karman wrote on her official Facebook page.

"It is possible that the Islamists simply fall through the ballot box without the need for military coups and without the need for an alliance with the military," Karman added.

She noted that her words are directed at some of the Arab left and liberals who chose to be a wiper used to remove the crimes of the military for fear of Islamists continuing in power because they have found themselves unable to compete with the Islamists for power through the ballot box.
