The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman today congratulated the Tunisian people on the success of the parliamentary elections won by the Islamic Ennahda Party, emphasizing that such elections represent a pioneer experience in the region.
Preliminary official results of legislative elections in Tunisia have shown the Islamic Ennahda party in first place with 52 out of the 217 seats in the Tunisian Parliament, followed by Qalb Tounes, the party of media mogul presidential candidate Nabil Karoui, in the second place with 38 seats with 38 seats. Attayar (Democratic Current) took third place with 22 seats and other four parties won 17 seats each.
"Congratulations to the Tunisian people for the success of the parliamentary elections, congratulations to Ennahda on winning in the elections with 25 seats”, she wrote in a statement on social media.
