The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, strongly condemned the international silence towards the about five-year war in Yemen, indicating that the neighboring Gulf states see in Yemen’s development and prosperity as a threat to their monarchies.

In a keynote speech at the Mediterranean Dialogue Conference in Rome this evening, Tawakkol Karman stated that the war in Yemen was ignited by the projects of forces hostile to the Yemeni state. 

Mrs. Karman indicated that this war has led to the destruction of state institutions and to starving and humiliating the citizens who have been targets of shilling and thousands of rockets by the Saudi-Emirati coalition air force.

The coalition has used the support for the legitimacy as a cover to destroy Yemen, empower the militias and the division policy, take over Yemen’s ports and coasts, oil and gas installations and impose guardianship on the Yemeni president and the Yemeni government, added the Nobel laureate.

She also noted that a stable Yemen is essential to the stability of global trade, especially regarding urgent global issues such as terrorism, piracy and refugee flow.
