The Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, congratulated the Yemeni female activist Huda Al-Sarari on winning the Martin Ennals Award granted annually to human rights defenders.
In a statement on her official Facebook page, Tawakkol Karman said that awarding the prize to Al-Sarari is a deserving honor.
According to the official website of The Martin Ennals Award, it is an annual prize for human rights defenders whose nominees are selected by a Jury of 10 of the world’s leading human rights NGOs.
The Award, founded in 1993, provides protection and support to human rights defenders who have demonstrated an exceptional record of combating human rights violations by courageous means and are in need of protection.
The award carries a cash prize of 20,000 Swiss francs to be used by the award winners to support their work in the field of human rights.
