Nobel Peace Prize laureate and activist Tawakkol Karman will join a distinguished panel of fellow laureates at the National Press Club tomorrow, Friday, September 13th, for a dialogue focused on the crucial role of women in promoting freedom and democracy worldwide.
The event, titled "NPC Headliners: Nobel Women Laureates on Freedom and Democracy," will feature a rare conversation with five Nobel Peace Prize laureates: Shirin Ebadi (Iran, 2003), Leymah Gbowee (Liberia, 2011), Oleksandra Matviychuk (Ukraine, 2022), and Jody Williams (United States, 1997).
Karman, as a prominent figure in the 2011 Yemeni revolution, is expected to address the critical role women play in achieving lasting peace, particularly in times of conflict where they are often excluded from peace-building processes. She will also highlight the importance of women's contributions to maintaining peaceful elections and democratic societies.
The Headliners Luncheon, hosted by National Press Club President Emily Wilkins, will begin at 12:30 p.m. with lunch in the Ballroom. The program will start at 1 p.m.
