Through its "Haith Al-Insan" program in its seventh season, Tawakkol Karman Foundation has helped Taha Mohammed, a young man from Al-Sardah village in Tuban district, Lahj governorate, launch his own business despite the significant challenges he has faced.
Taha was working as a daily wage laborer when he was injured in 2015 due to the war. He was taken to the hospital, and when he regained consciousness, he was shocked to discover he had lost his right hand. But rather than surrendering to despair, Taha chose to keep going—for his children, his family, and himself.
"I was shocked when I woke up after the injury, but I didn’t give up. I kept fighting and will continue working for my children and my home. I’m responsible for my entire family, including my siblings and my mother and sisters who are also struggling. I won’t stop," he said.
Even after losing his right hand, Taha didn’t let go of his determination. "Before the injury, I worked in the valley transporting construction materials. People looked at me with pity, but I never let despair take hold of me."
His cousin, Sami Khaled, recalled how the family stood by him after the injury: "We sat with him and reassured him. We encouraged him to go back to the field he once worked in. We saw his enthusiasm and determination. He always had ideas to serve the village, especially in water-related projects."
In recognition of Taha’s resilience, Haith Al-Insan decided to support him by funding a fully equipped grocery shop powered by solar energy, providing a stable source of income to support him and his family.
Taha expressed his deep gratitude, saying: "Thank you for everything—you surprised me. This is the happiest moment of my life. I can’t describe how I feel. I thank 'Haith Al-Insan' and Tawakkol Karman Foundation from the bottom of my heart. I’m overwhelmed with joy."
