Through its "Haith Al-Insan" program in its seventh season, Tawakkol Karman Foundation has funded the renovation of doctors' housing at the Al-Faydami Medical Center in Al-Mahra governorate, alleviating the suffering of 10,000 residents.
The doctors' residence at the center, located in Al-Faydami in Al-Ghaydah district, had sustained severe damage due to cyclones Luban and Tej. As a result, medical staff were forced to live far from the center, making it difficult for patients to receive timely medical attention. Many residents would arrive at the facility only to find no doctors available, forcing them to travel to the district center in search of treatment.
Ali Al-Faqih, a resident of Al-Faydami, described the challenge: "People come to the medical center, but they don’t find a doctor because he lives far away, so they have to travel to Al-Ghaydah for treatment."
He added, "If doctors had housing close to the medical center, they would be available at all times, allowing patients to receive care whenever needed. Providing nearby housing for doctors is essential."
Dr. Abdullah Al-Tamimi, an assistant physician at the center for 15 years, highlighted the difficulties faced by medical staff who must commute from distant areas, some traveling from Al-Ghaydah, which is 45 kilometers away.
"The greatest burden falls on patients who travel long distances only to find that the doctor isn’t available, leaving them no choice but to go to Al-Ghaydah for treatment," Al-Tamimi said.
Recognizing the urgent need, the "Haith Al-Insan" team assessed the situation and implemented a plan to restore and fully furnish the doctors' housing at the Al-Faydami Medical Center.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Al-Tamimi said, "In the past, delays in medical services were a major issue. But now, with fully equipped housing inside the center, doctors can be present 24/7. Thanks to Tawakkol Karman Foundation for making this possible—we and our patients are truly grateful."
