Tawakkol Karman Foundation has brought an abandoned farm in Tuban District, Lahj (southern Yemen) back to life after years of neglect had left it nearly barren.

The farm, inherited by seven siblings—four brothers and three sisters—from their late father, was once their sole source of income. However, soaring fuel prices and the ongoing medical expenses for their paralyzed sister, who suffered severe fever in childhood, drained their savings. Frequent hospital visits left them financially exhausted, forcing them to abandon the farm, which became overrun with thorny weeds.

Speaking about the hardship, Sabir Abdullah Saeed Ali, one of the farm’s owners, shared:

"After the farm turned into a wasteland and lost its greenery, I had to take on multiple jobs just to provide for my family and cover my sister’s treatment. I even worked on other people’s farms, but I always felt a deep pain, unable to restore life to my own land."

Following an extensive assessment of the farm’s needs, Tawakkol Karman Foundation launched a revitalization project, which included rehabilitating the farm’s buried well, installing a fully integrated solar-powered irrigation system, and constructing a control room to manage operations efficiently.

Additionally, the foundation provided all the necessary farming equipment, allowing water to flow once again, transforming the barren land back into a thriving, green oasis.

Standing amidst the lush greenery that has now returned to his farm, Sabir Ali expressed his profound gratitude to Tawakkol Karman Foundation, saying:

"I can't describe how I feel. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this farm back to life after it was overtaken by wild plants... Alhamdulillah."
