In its seventh season, and with support from Tawakkol Karman Foundation, the Haith Al-Insan program has transformed a long-standing dream into reality for a marginalized community in Taiz, southwestern Yemen.
The program has built a fully equipped educational complex in the Al-Mudhaffar district of Taiz, designed to accommodate both hearing students and the deaf community. The project, with a total cost of one billion Yemeni riyals, now serves as a beacon of hope for students in need of specialized education.
The 30-classroom facility includes administrative offices, essential facilities, and state-of-the-art laboratories. The new complex provides deaf students with a suitable learning environment, tailored to their specific needs.
Construction of the complex took two years, and it was officially inaugurated on October 6, 2024. The school is equipped with the latest educational resources, including computer labs and a library stocked with books to enrich students’ knowledge. It welcomes students across all educational levels, from primary school to high school.
This intervention by Haith Al-Insan came in response to repeated calls for help from families within the deaf community, who had struggled to secure proper education for their children. Many parents expressed frustration over the lack of public and private sector support for their children's educational needs.
Kholoud Abdu Qasim, one of the students benefiting from the project, shared her personal experience:
"I used to attend a rural school with my sister, who struggled immensely because she is deaf. All the other students were hearing, and she had no specialized support. When we heard about the Belqees Complex, my family made the difficult decision to relocate from Al-Wazi’iyah to Al-Ba’rarah, just to ensure my sister could receive the right education."
Now a first-year high school student, Kholoud continued:
"Every morning, my sister and I set off for school—she goes to the school for the deaf, while I attend the school for hearing students. Her education has improved significantly because she now has specialized teachers, a computer lab, and access to activities designed for her needs. She has benefited greatly, and our family has finally found stability."
Her sister, Amal Abdu Qasim, also a high school student, echoed these sentiments:
"The education here is so much better than in my previous schools, where all the students were hearing. I am incredibly happy here—we have specialized teachers, friends from my own community, and also hearing classmates."
Over the past six seasons, Haith Al-Insan has implemented 174 projects across 13 Yemeni governorates, benefiting over 100,000 people. These projects cover education, economic empowerment, healthcare, and development—all aimed at uplifting communities affected by war.
All Haith Al-Insan projects are documented and broadcast as television episodes during Ramadan on Belqees TV, as well as on the foundation’s YouTube channel and social media platforms.
