Tawakkol Karman Mourns Ali Salem Al-Beidh, Hails His Role in Yemeni Unity
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, has expressed her condolences on the death of prominent Yemeni national figure Ali Salem Al-Beidh, describing him as a central architect of a pivotal chapter in Yemen’s modern history and a key engineer of Yemeni unity.
In a statement shared on her official Facebook page, Karman extended her condolences to the Yemeni people and the Arab nation, noting that Yemeni unity represented the dream of generations and reflected the aspirations of a people seeking an inclusive and just state.
Karman said that Al-Beidh was both a witness to and a maker of a significant national era marked by major transformations, stressing that his name remains inseparably linked to a defining national event that cannot be ignored or erased from Yemen’s political memory.
She added that the moment of mourning serves as a reminder that nations are built through consensus, safeguarded by justice, and sustained through acknowledgment of all those who have contributed to their history.
Karman concluded by praying for mercy for Al-Beidh and for patience and solace for his family, relatives, and supporters.
Ali Salem Al-Beidh, a former South Yemeni leader and later Vice President of Yemen after the 1990 unification, died on Saturday in Abu Dhabi at the age of 87, following a long political career that shaped a key chapter in the country’s modern history.
