Nobel Laureate Calls for Immediate Withdrawal of STC from Hadramawt
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman has issued a forceful call for the immediate withdrawal of Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias from Yemen’s eastern province of Hadramawt, warning that their continued presence risks plunging the country into a new and destructive conflict.
In a post on her official Facebook page, Karman reaffirmed her full support for Hadramawt, describing the province as “a land of civilization and history” and rejecting what she characterized as an “invasion and occupation” carried out by UAE-backed STC forces originating from Dhale and Yafe'.
Karman stressed that these deployments pose a grave threat to civil peace and social stability in the province, accusing the militias of engaging in widespread intimidation, looting, and fear-mongering against local communities.
Her remarks come amid growing tensions in Hadramawt, where residents and political figures have increasingly voiced concern over the expanding military footprint of the STC and its implications for local governance and national unity.
