Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman has once again denounced airstrikes on Yemeni territory, labeling them as acts of aggression against the nation and its people.
In a post published on her official Facebook page, Karman declared: “I reject and condemn any bombing of Yemen, and I consider it an aggression against Yemen, its territory and its people.” Her remarks come amid ongoing regional and international tensions and reports of renewed aerial bombardments in parts of the country.
Karman, a prominent voice in Yemen’s pro-democracy movement, emphasized that foreign military intervention is not the solution to the conflict. Instead, she called for comprehensive support for Yemen’s national army and grassroots resistance groups to combat what she described as the “Houthi pandemic” and to overturn what she termed a “terrorist coup.”
“The only acceptable and effective way to help Yemenis eliminate the Houthi pandemic and the terrorist coup is to provide full support to the Yemeni army and the popular resistance,” she wrote.
Karman further stressed the importance of restoring the Yemeni state, calling for the liberation of the capital, Sanaa, and the reestablishment of legitimate state authority across all territories, including control over airspace and territorial waters.
Tawakkol Karman, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011 for her role in promoting non-violent struggle for women’s rights and democracy, continues to be an influential voice advocating for a sovereign and democratic Yemen.
