Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist, Tawakkol Karman, has made it clear that she doesn’t see any chance for Assad’s regime to come back. She believes the Syrian revolution is still strong in its fight for freedom and justice.
In a recent post on her "X" account (formerly Twitter), Karman didn’t hold back in condemning Bashar al-Assad. She called his regime genocidal, pointing to horrific acts like the use of explosive barrels, chemical weapons, and even drug trafficking. To her, Assad’s hopes of being seen as legitimate again are as unrealistic as “Satan dreaming of paradise.”
While denouncing all human rights violations and extrajudicial killings, Karman emphasized that these are isolated incidents rather than indicative of a broader policy. She firmly asserted that a free Syria will ensure full accountability for those responsible.
Her comments come amid escalating violence in Syria’s Sahel region, where intense clashes have erupted between government forces and remnants of Assad’s regime, following a series of targeted assassinations and ambushes.
