Nobel Laureate and human rights advocate, Tawakkol Karman, shared her perspective on the current political situation in Syria via her official Facebook page.
Karman emphasized the role of Ahmed Al-Shara' in guiding the country towards a legitimate transitional phase following the ousting of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
In her remarks, Karman stated that Al-Shara' governs based on "revolutionary legitimacy," representing the diverse factions that contributed to the regime's downfall.
She highlighted his proposal for a four-year transitional period, which she deemed reasonable given Syria's complex and destructive political legacy.
Karman noted that the period may vary slightly, but what truly matters is ensuring freedom of expression and allowing all citizens the right to organize politically in preparation for the upcoming elections.
She explained that these elections will be conducted under a new constitution, which will be drafted and voted on during this transitional phase.
Karman also dismissed calls for a comprehensive government at this stage, labeling them as "a ridiculous joke" devoid of legitimacy.
She argued that such demands could hinder the transitional process, ultimately jeopardizing the progress towards a free and democratic Syria.
Her comments underscore the critical juncture at which Syria finds itself, as it strives to establish a new political order rooted in democratic principles and legitimacy.
